Twix Protein Donuts
The best of both worlds… what could this mean? Oh, just Twix and donuts; a Twix donut to be exact. Healthy Twix bars have been super trendy lately and as much of a fan of them that I am, sometimes I like to make sure I can pack even more of a nutritional punch into my treats. So, with these addicting little guys, I added some protein to the crust and some Maca powder to the caramel. Sure, these won’t make you a superhero by any means but they are dang delicious and satisfy all the sweet cravings imaginable!
And of course, these are dairy free, gluten free, and refined sugar-free. All you need is an oven, one bowl, and a handful of ingredients. These are also extremely versatile, so feel free to mix things up and have fun with it! It can be fun to try different flavored proteins, nut butter, or chocolate. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup protein powder of choice (Or you can use any sort of flour to sub)
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/3 cup melted coconut oil
2 tbsp maple syrup
Cashew Butter Caramel layer:
1/2 cup cashew butter (or any sort of nut butter)
1/4 cup maple syrup (You can also use coconut sugar)
1 tsp maca powder (optional!)
Pinch of sea salt
3 Tbsp melted coconut oil
Chocolate topping:
1 chocolate bar of choice (I used salted caramel from Lilys)
2 tsp melted coconut oil
How to:
Preheat oven to 350F. Mix all cookie ingredients together until a dough forms. Press into a prepared donut pan (or any pan!) and bake until slightly golden (about 8-10 minutes). Watch these carefully as different protein powders react differently in the oven!
Remove the crusts from the oven and let cool completely. Make the caramel by combining all ingredients until creamy. Divide evenly amongst the donuts.
Melt the chocolate and coconut oil together until completely smooth. Divide amongst the donuts, making sure to cover all of the caramel.
Place in the freezer to set (1-2 hours). Remove from the donut pan and store in the fridge. Enjoy!
