This is a soy free protein that resembles tofu! Great for those who can't consume soy. They're high in protein, fiber, and just ONE ingredient! And this recipe is so versatile. You can slice it thin and use as patties, scramble it, use it cubed, crumbled, or as FRIES!
Ingredients
- 1 cup chickpea flour
- 2 1/2 cups water
- Optional Spices - feel free to use anything you like!
- 3 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 2 tsp garlic
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp sea Salt & toss of pepper
- Oregano, parsley, chives (any herbs)
- Hot sauce, etc.
Instructions
- Line an 9x5 pan (or loaf pan) with parchment paper or spray with oil and set aside.
- Whisk together the chickpea flour, 1 1/4 cups of the water, and whatever seasonings/spices you are using until no lumps remain.
- Add the other 1 1/4 cups water to a medium saucepan, bringing it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to medium, and pour in the chickpea mixture.
- Cook, stirring constantly, for 5-6 minutes. The mixture should thicken and become glossy.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, tapping it on the counter to even it out. Let it sit out until it has cooled, then place in the fridge for an hour to set up.
- Cut into fry shapes, cubes, or pieces and use as you'd like! For the fries above, I cut the mixture into fry shapes, sprayed with avocado oil, and air fried until crispy. They will have an almost cheesy-like texture on the inside and they are to die for!
- Pair with a marinara to dip!
